If you are looking for a good quality and discreet mid-range vaporizer, look no further. New to the vaporizing community is the ultra slim and elegant AirVape XS vaporizer which is designed by Apollo at the famous Venice Beach, California for vapers around the world.

Design

I am impressed with this one, small, light weight and comfortable to hold. Looks and feels durable with its anodized metal shell and the small --but sturdy-- glass mouthpiece. As there are just a few parts to this vape that come apart, keeping it clean won’t be an issue at all, in fact very easy.

The AirVape XS has an oval ceramic chamber that sits just under the mouthpiece and a cooling channeling system built inside the silicon mouthpiece base so to prevent vapor from going straight from oven to month. This is to improve smoothness as well as vapor’s temperature. The chamber has a capacity of +- 0.3g of dry herb, which is more than enough for a 5 min session of constant vape production.

The buttons are good quality however backwards to the norm with up being on the left, down on the right and the power button in the middle, 3 clicks on and 3 clicks off. To change from Celsius to Fahrenheit just hold in the power button and down arrow for 3 seconds. Simply and effective.

airvape-xs-vaporizer-with-mouthpieceSize wise I believe this is one for the ladies, small and discreet. Dimensions are 12cm tall, 4.5cm wide and only 1cm in depth. The unit can be charged through any USB port (computer, cellphone charger) with the supplied micro USB cable or using the wall adapter.

The mirror reflection display is aesthetically pleasing and for my fellow lady vapers great for touching up your lipstick after a session however does hinder the visibility of the information being displayed somewhat, especially in light. LCD could be brighter or at least be backlit.

Performance and Use

Definitely one of the easiest vaporizers to use however I found that loading the chamber can be tricky especially if you have large fingers – heats up is quick in just under 30 seconds and with great vapor production from the get go!

Starting at 175◦C first few draws were cool and smooth with good flavor after 3 or 4 puffs I started working my way up in temperature at 180◦C the vape was thicker and flavor was okay, moving up to 185◦C I find the vape to be a bit scratchy but with much thicker vape – towards the end of the session at 195◦C the timer was about out and vape was thinning out, flavor at this point was lacking…. but that has nothing to do with the AirVape.

At the end of my 5 min session, I found the vapor produced by the XS was a lot warmer although she certainly did give great clouds of vape throughout the session. I also found however that the AirVape XS lacked in the flavor somewhat after those initial couple of puffs and almost leaving behind a rubbery metallic flavor but this could possibly be because the vape was new when tested. airvape-black

The AirVape XS has a medium draw resistance, not as restricted as the Arizer Solo but offered more resistance than my Mighty. The AirVape XS uses a combination of conduction and convection for its ceramic oven and although vapor got a little thicker at around 180°C, I would say that this little unit can deliver a fairly even vapor trough out my session.

The glass mouthpiece comes with a removable heat-protective silicone sleeve but even after a few consecutive sessions I’ve found the sleeve unnecessary as the glass never got too hot to feel uncomfortable between your lips. But I guess it’s a nice thing to have when you are sharing the vape with a friend and you want to avoid sharing saliva as well as vapor.

Out of the box the AirVape XS features a 3 min auto shut off that can be increased to 5 min by pressing and holding the UP and power button. The unit also makes use of a convenient haptic feedback to warn you when temperature is reached; it vibrates when it goes off as well as when the battery needs a charge.

Upon inspection of the oven after the 5min session, I’ve found that the herbs were evenly vaporized, both at the top and bottom of the oven. The top part XS (where the oven is located) by the end got very warm but the thinner body-section of the unit was slightly warm and comfortable to hold. Battery life is good after 4 sessions she still had some battery life and charges to full in about an hour and a half.

Considering its slim battery, I got a fair amount of vaping time out of full charge: 8 five minute sessions at a temperature ranging between 180° and 190° and the charging time (using the wall adapter) is around 90 min. If you run out of juice while in the middle of a session, stress not because the AirVape XS can be also used while it’s charging.

Overall

My final thoughts on the AirVape XS, this is a neat little vape with good vapor production, easy to use and clean, and despite its iPod-like thinness it feels durable and it looks great. If flavor is not the most important thing to you this is a good buy for the price, especially if this is your first vaporizer or if you are after something very discreet and inconspicuous.

Overall I really like the look and feel of this vape!
